| Carpooling to Save Money |
29 Oct |
One of the things that I have learned over the past month is that the cost of driving to and from work can get very expensive. Having worked within walking distance of most jobs that I have ever had, taking a job out of town was going to be a big step for me. I took it because the amount of money that I was going to make was going to be twice what I was making at the time, and truth be told I wasn’t going to be doing much more work.
But the one thing that I failed to realize was that my expenses were going to go up. In the past, I had only spend about fifty dollars a month filling up my truck, but now working at a mine a half-hour out of town, I was using that much a week. I didn’t like the fact that when all was said and done, I really wasn’t making a pile more money – just a little bit more than my old job.
I decided that I was going to find a way to save that extra money and I decided that I would see if there was someone that I could carpool with. I wasn’t the only one that worked my shift, and there was bound do be someone in the same situation as me, right?
It didn’t take long and I have been able to split the gas with a buddy from work. I don’t know why I hadn’t thought of it sooner – it just makes sense(for the environment and my pocketbook).
